How to tell BCI gender?

lilbitlizz Jun 09, 2003 02:45 PM

Hey everyone,
I recently rescued a school pet boa..."She" has lived there for 7 years, but the school board decided it was time for her to leave, so I scooped up the opportunity. I've concluded that she is a BCI, but people are always asking how I can tell what gender "she" is. That's a good question that I"ll pass on to the experts. I've only been going with "she" because her first owner/the teacher who donated her to the school proclaimed her as such. : ) SO, how can you externally define a snake's gender?

not a definate way, but if she doesn't have spurs or has very small spurs that would make it a she. The spurs are on the sides of the cloaca (sp?). This method is not even close to accurate, but it gives you somthing to base your opinion on.

The best method would be to have her probed. That would involve finding a good reptile vet (don't just belive they know what they are doing. I did that and was told I had to boys. Later they turned out to be girls) or find a good hobbiest in your area.
