"Calcium dish"-related question

rich_123 Feb 21, 2004 12:23 PM

I've read that when females are gravid they can be given a dish of calcium. Will a dish of calcium powder from your typical reptile dietary supplement suffice or should I use grounded up cuttlebone as I've also read? Or will both work equally well?

Hi

You should always keep a dish of straight calcium in each gecko tank at all times.

Personally I always keep a dish of vitamin D3 & phosphorus free calcium (Jurassi-Cal is a good brand) in the tank at all times. Seraph's still only a few months old so she enjoys the constant access while she's growing

Cuttlebone pretty much is identical stuff to your typical reptile calcium supplement- calcium carbonate. I wouldn't be suprised if it had some other helpful trace minerals, but I couldn't tell you what they would be.
