I went in to feed my collared earlier this afternoon and for the first time he actually went for me and tried to bite! He was hissing and also thrashing his tail (and i mean he was intent on delivering a strong bite if he made contact with me). Could this be a good sign as he has been pretty lethargic lately and not eating much?

Yucky medicine you gave him, hahhahahha ! Hopefully hes feeling a bit more fiesty! Just keep observing him.

Sounds to me, you definitely have yourself a wc collared.

Just be patience, keep trying to handle, little at a time.
Is he attempting to eat yet?

WC's are alot harder to care for, until hes acclimated.

He should be more healthy, now that he had the panacur, and got rid of the worms. So thats one step in the right direction.

Now you have to keep feeding him (if hes not eating by himself) for awhile till he does !

I know you are probably thinking well how, IF HES ATTACKING ME?

Well, VERY CAREFULLY, hehhehehhee ! You have to be tougher than him,

I just grabbed my wc's anyway, don't try to get him from OVERHEAD, thats how their enemies attack them, so its normal for the collared to want to defend himself !

Have your hand go into his body from the side, or even low down, in the front of his face, allowing him to see your hand .

Just keep trying !

soundsgood to meHave you tried pinkys? There working wonders on my lot,and like yourself this lot are all wc apart from one which was bred here in scotlandI think the bad shape of our uk collareds owes alot to the fact these guys have fast metabolisms and the stress and lenght of time there in transport means they get pretty depleted of fat reservesJust my thoughts on our poorly wc's.
this is the cb collared i bought as a hatchling, shes never had any problems whatsoever, but she does like to chew on my fingers

hi Jason,

I dint realise you are from the UK, i didnt think there were many of us keeping collareds this side of the pond. its definitely good to hear there is more of us. I completely agree about the poor state of collareds in Uk petshops. I bought mine in bad conditions, nut after a lot of TLC, they are starting to look really nice and fat, and a lot more active (i'll post some pic later). Theres a new pair of C.collaris in my local shop in bad condition, looking emaciated and covered in mites and ticks. i really want to rescue them, but £55 each is too much to pay for a lizard that might well die on me. Its such a shame
With the pinkys, do you have to feed them live, or wil they take dead ones if they are dangled on tweezers? I will definitely have to try it for gettng mine into breeding condition.

Cheers,

Dan.

Yeahhhhhhhhhh, more UK fella's
come on guys, we can do anything them American's can eh, haha,, no offence guys,,, just having a laugh

I got my 4 collared from down here in bedfordshire for around £37-£40.

they were all in Ok condition, bit thin and one has a slight cut on it's nose which is now well healed.

I have only had my 2 females for about 3 months ish and one is already gravid and ready to drop at any time.

Been doing lots of research on getting Dickersons in the UK and things are looking better than I first though, So hopefully shouldn't be too long before we have em,

Haven't tried feeding mine the pinkies yet, they seem pretty happy on silkworms, large crickets and locusts.

do fancy giving Dave my male a bit of a boost weight wise though as he seems to have gone off his appetite a little since getting Grumpy up the duff.
guess he's just a wee bit tuckered out. lol

game on guys, get ya pics up here soon, am gonna make a point of getting the digi out tonight when I get home and start building up a picture file,
Someone let us know what I do with the pics from the digi as new to the camera and not too sure what I need to do.

cheers and be lucky,

Funky

as for the pinkys dan,i forcefeed F/T but only until there fat enough to go back to crix, mealies and waxy'sIf you can deal, and can get a supply of live pink's im pretty confident that the collareds would wolf em downSo funky whats the deal with the dickersonnae? What who and where yah got im mind for a source?Well keep at it peeps, there a royal pain in the a55 when there down, but when yah get em there the collareds are by far one of the most entertaining herps ive ever kept!
