Buying feeder mice...

lizbet Feb 21, 2004 02:46 PM

My only snake is my baby king, and right now I am buying frozen pinkies from a local pet store for about $1 a mouse. It'll be even more when he moves up to fuzzies ect. So my question is, is ordering feeders even an option? I know I'd have to buy a large quantity so how long would they keep? Under the circumstances am I better off just sticking to my local pet store?

If you add up the per-mouse costs, buying them in bulk (online) is usually cheaper, even with the somewhat-steep rush shipping included.

If receive a bulk shipment, separate them into freezer-lock bags of about ten to fifteen per, and stuff 'em away in the freezer, they will keep for as long as it takes for you to use them all (six months or more, easily).

I've had great experiences with online bulk purchases. Email me directly (through nosnakeban) if you want more info.

Good luck.

definitely go with ordering them, it is so much cheaper! small sizes usually come in packs of 50-100, and I find it quite easy to pull a few out at a time even when they're all frozen together. I've used a couple of suppliers including rodentpro and the mouse factory and am quite happy with them, and my fl king started on their pinkies and is now on full size mice. good quality 'mousicles'. both of those, and lots of others, can be found on kingsnake.com...several of the websites have ordering info and info on ther products for you to check out, and if you have questions they're usually pretty happy to answer them. my experience with pet store frozen mice is that they don't attend to them as they should and frequently the things have partially thawed and refrozen a few times because of improper storing
