How long?

timdog Feb 21, 2004 03:39 PM

Does anybody know how long it takes for a Blandings turtle's throat to develop the Yellow that the adults have. I've heard it takes between one and six years...is that right?
Mine is 8 months old...just under 5 inches. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this species. Mine is very shy and skittish...well at least more so than other aquatics i've kept.
Thanx.
Tim

Seems like I've seen pictures of little tiny hatchling with nice yellow throats. Sorry I can't give you much of an answer.

I agree. . . An 8 month old turtle should not be 5in. That seems very big for how young it is. Growing to fast can cause growth deformaties of the shell. Are you sure of his age? I would think the turtle would need to be about 2 years old (if not older) before it was 5in.
