Help with heating/lighting

down Feb 21, 2004 03:43 PM

Hey:
I'd appreciate some opinions on which way to go here. I'm pretty new to this (just got into it about 2 weeks ago), so bear with me.
I've got a couple females already and have decided to pick up a male and try my hand at breeding. I've got my 2 girls in an aquarium right now, picking up the male tomorrow so I can get the quarintine period done and over with.
I'd planned on getting another aqaurium, but came across a very good deal (IMO) on this case. Figured it'd serve me pretty well as I have a premonition that a Rosy Boa may be in my near future.
In my aquarium, I've got a small uth that I keep on, and a heat bulb that I toss on for 8 or 9 hours a day (they never hang on the heated side, they're always in their hammock).

Finally, I'll get to my question, in the case (assuming the pic shows up), what kind of bulb should I get for heating/lighting in the display case? Am I going to need to go the infrared route and just make sure they can't get up to touch the bulb?

Sorry about the long post, and thanks. I'm sure I'll be wandering this forum alot from now on out.

Actually, the route that is the best(in my opinion) is Under Tank Heaters(UTH). The warm end maximum is 80F, and the cool end minimum is around 75F. If you do decide on going with a light, get a red 'night light'(leos are nocturnal, so they don't need any UV lighting). (Keep same temps for cage, tho). I will be more than happy to answer any of your other questions!!

I have been under the impression that the warm end for the Leo's tank should be about 88-92f .. that's what I've been keeping mine at, and they are doing great. 80 on the warm end, and 75 on the cool end doesn't seem like much variance.
