Kiknskreem Feb 21, 2004 03:48 PM

What exactly is "power feeding", and what are its effects?

Feeding snakes too much which can result in snakes that grow quicker than they should. You can identify this by a snake who's body is nowhere near proportionate to the size of the head (head would be too small for that particualr size snake).
As far as adverse affects. This is debated and not looking to get into another debate this week......lol

I would just stick to a diet of a meal that is about the same in width as your snake and feed it ONE every 7 days. That will be a good diet for any snake.

I believe just as with us - overeating leads to health problems and possibly shortened life span.

Just feed following normal guidelines and enjoy your snakes natural/normal growth.

Am I overfeeding? I bought a normal 3/03. i assume its an '02 baby.
4/03 length 17"
9/19/03 length 30" 118gr
2/15/04 length 3'+ 271gr before feeding
2/22/04 290gr before feeding.
I always moved up in prey size as soon as it could take 2 prey items at a time, 3 weeks in a row. Currently feeding 2-3 sm mice (9-16gr) per week just because I have them in bulk. Total weight of meal is around 30gr. Sheds every other month and "parks lunch" once or twice a week.

that snake looks nice and healthy to me.
Doesn't show any signs of obesity in my opinion
