i am confused

pacman101 Feb 21, 2004 05:33 PM

All the sites I have been to say you can house a alderlarus( correct me if I am wrong) pixie frog in a 20 gallon aquarium. And dwarfs eldalarus can be housed in a 10 gallon which kinda makes sense because dwarfs are half the size but snake guy says you need a 40-50 gallon for alderlarus?O also what big food items can you feed these guys besides golfish and mice?

thanks

i'm no expert but a 10" frog in a 20 gallon doesn't sound too cozy to me...he'll be sitting in his own poop...a frog that large is going to need some space...the idea behind keeping any reptile of amphibian is to make them as comfortable as possible and imimtate their natural enviroment not trying to save space in your basement.

as far as food...number one, don't feed them alot of mice because they are fatty...nightcrawlers, hissing roaches, superworms and giant horn worms are some nutritious large prey items.

Agreed. Mice and goldfish can do more harm than good nutritonally. Hissers make a great food source. They are easy to locate and get, easy to keep, and they breed like crazy. They are easy to gutload too.

And as for size, a 9 or 10 inch african bullfrog that weighs close to 3 lbs is not going to be comfortable in a 20 gallon tank. The size difference between a big horned frog and a big african bullfrog is HUGE if you ever get the chance to compare the two side by side.

When I said besides goldfish and mice I meant I wasn't gonna use them.Do they lead to lipid buildup on the eyes and cause blindness?I think thats what i heard....

thanks

And I think you heard exactly right. No mice nor fish.

Keep on asking and researching!
