New CB 03 wetsrern hog

Herprookie Feb 21, 2004 06:58 PM

We came home with a female 'late' CB 03 western today from the North Virginia Reptile Expo. The hog looks nice and healthy.
The only thing I forgot for her new tank were the thermometers.
So I removed two thermometers from our corn snakes tank and place them at either end of the hog's new home.
Stay with me.
A couple of hours after the hog was in her tank we saw her moving around. What she was doing was trying to eat the thermometer on the cool end of the tank. Her mouth was open and she was attacking the thermometer.
We were amazed. The thermometers are the round analog type about the diameter of a half dollar.
My guess is that she picked up the scent of our corn. The corn would lounge around sometimes on top of the thermometers.

I had a similar thing happen with my BP. I had some pieces of slate in my corns cage, and after rearranging his cage, decided to move one of the rocks to the BPs cage, neglecting to wash it in the process. Well, my BP struck at the rock and stayed in attack stance. Needless to say, I took the rock out. Seems corns and others don't get along well?!?

She called while we were driving back and asked ,"what did you buy".
Somehow she knew that we could not return empty handed. She's actually OK with the snakes.
It's the dead rodent aspect of it that is challenging.

Good seeing you again.
