What is the definitiion of super hypo and hypo?

roachey56 Feb 21, 2004 07:32 PM

I thought a hypo was a leo with hardly any spotting on the body (a couple of spots in a small area on the body) is that true?
and i thought a Super Hypo was a leo with no spotting on the body, is that true?

Yeah, thats true. The rule of thumb for most people is less than ten spots on body is hypo. Super hypo usually has no spots on body but still may have some on head. These are not to be confused with patternless or blizzard. Those are completely different genes.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought that was true but when i was looking through some availible leos on an anonymous breeders site they were calling hypos Super Hypos. It really makes me feel bad when you see what people will do to make a buck.

I'm not posotive on this, but i think superhypos will have a spot or two as babies. But it will fade with age. The spots look a little funny when compared to a regular leo. That might be what your seeing. Although, there are alot of breeders, (i'm not talking about anybody specific, just repeating things i've heard)there are some breeders that use camera affects, photoshop, and just flat out lie about what their geckos are. Personally, color or spotting makes little difference to me. I wish geckos would be sold by the personality they have, but that is probably close to impossible.
