Lame arm after injection

BigFil Feb 21, 2004 09:07 PM

Today my two dragons went to the vet for their follow up shot of Droncit after recieving the first two weeks ago. Well now Smeagol's arm is not working so well, the one that got the injection. When he tries to walk his wrist is limp and ends up walking the topside of the wrist. He's also been holding it at his side while in his basking spot. I probed around the arm and it didn't seem to bother him, but it does have me concerned. Has anyone else experienced this with a BD that has had an injection in the arm. It's been over 7 hrs now and i'm starting to get worried.

Sometimes the injection can cause the arm to be sore and they will not use the leg for several hours after the injection. Now, worse case scenario, if they hit a nerve when doing the injection it can cause some, hopefully, temporary nerve damage. If nothing is seriously wrong he should be using it normally by tomorrow or the next day.

Thanks Stacey, I was and hoping that this was the case. I have been trying to stop him from moving around a whole lot to prevent him from injuring his arm. By the way Gollum just recieved his last dose of Albon after 11 days of treatment on round two. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and cage cleaned in hopes that we finally will beat this damn coccidia and loss of appetite.

several hours to be absorbed by the muscles also and the soaks will also increase the blood flow to the muscles, helping carry the meds through his system and taking down the inflamation from the injection site.

Wouldn't your arm be sore if you got a shot with a proportional needle. Give it some time and it should be fine, if not take him back to the vet.
