I am getting a German Giant baby and need to Know the size of the enclousure needed at adult size. ( Parents about 23" Also where can i find plans to build such an enclousure. My friend said a feed trough with a screen top would do but I want something that will look nice and be practicle. Any ideas welcome!!!

Did you use nails , glue, staples?? What material? Was it painted, Stained, etc? As you can see boastud I have alot of Questions???

It is 3/4" white melamine. It is put together with screws. Make sure that you predrill the holes as the melamine is compressed wood and it will split if you just screw the screw in. I use an adhesive called goop to glue the plastic sliding door tracks in.

Hi I just wanted to let try to give you a link someone once left here. It's very useful in getting what materials you would need to make you own cage. I opted to make my own from an entertainment center I had. I hope you like it!

Here are some of the steps that we took. After we stablized the enetertainment center we used L brackets to put up shelves. We have 2 basking spots on to top with a sand/bran box( still haven't decided) underneath the basking spot on the left. Basking spot on the right has a hiding spot underneath. After applying the spray foam( needs a good vented area when applying) and it has dried- you can use cement or what ever you decided to use. When you do this there are little creveses- you should apply well to be able to clean well. I did go and add more just yesterday for the same reason but all in all not to hard. Let me know if you want me to e-mail you anything.

I am familiar w/ the basic techniques - done several smaller fake rock projects but not anything as complex as a complete set--up. I am trying to get ideas on placement and what not.

I like the idea of the bran/sand box up on one of the shelfs. I think I will incorporate that into mine (if you don't mind).

How accessable is the hide box for cleaning. I have been pondering how to give sufficient hiding space w/o cutting off access to cleaing. with the box being built in can you still reach enough to thoroughly clean the inside?

I got all my ideas from all the great cages that were being built on this forum. I changed with the melt sheet that they use on stucco homes instead of all foam walls when we took a trip to Home Depot to look around at everything. The guy that helped us was a beardie owner and started to give us all these ideas plus I just wasn't sure of the mess and time we would have to actually carve out stones out of styrofoam. With everything stapled gun down it is very secure. For easy moving we also added wheels to the bottom. I'm not sure if you can see but the hiding space has 2 openings. One in the front and one facing the floor. We recycled a wooden box that was used for checkers and games. It is 11" x 11" I belive. It took more room than what we extected because we covered it with metal without thinking of the back wall so it took more room. But it is easy to clean since the front is so wide plus we have a seperate entry on the side if needed.

Here is the tank I an working on, these were taken a few weeks ago. Since that time the cabinet doors and shelving have been added to the bottom and 1/4 glass sliding doors added to the tank.
I decided for easy cleaning that I would make a stainless steel tray that I could easly pull out after removing the driftwood. Also, in the space below the tray and above the cabinet area I installed a custom flat plate heater. I keep this space heated to 80 degrees. Basically I've created an undertank heater with out the risk of hot spots.

With the tray closed up. The box on the top of the tank houses a MVB in a 15" dome.
