Problem Feeder

cod6545 Feb 21, 2004 09:52 PM

Hey- I've got a two foot albino burm who is absolutely refusing to feed. His albino brother wolfed a mouse yesterday with no problem. I got them from CB from a dealer in another city, and I've had them for about a week. Any suggestions on how to get him to feed? He's being offered semi adult- adult mice. Thanks.

Ok, I to had the same problem with my girl. I found out she was a very shy feeder. Meaning I could not even be in the room with her, if I was she would not eat. She shyied away from it, and was like scared of it. You can put the mouse in there with her, step back to the back of the room turn the lights off in the room and just watch. It may take awhile but you can not move. If you do she will not do a thing. Or the safer way to go is get a rat pup, and just leave it in there with her and leave the room. She should go to it. But you just got her so I would maybe wait another week, and let her get ajusted. Mine went a month before I did the rat pup thing, and then she ate a rat after that, later that week, then she became a feeding machine, now on rabbits, and I got her a year ago this month, she is now 7ft. Just my suggestions, or if she ends up not taking the mouse live, then kill it and just leave it in there with her maybe she will take it that way.

Don't label him or her as a "problem feeder" already! Some snakes wont eat for a week or three when put in a new home. It's very normal. Give your new snake time to get used to the new surroundings and offer food once a week. If the snake doesn't want to eat after 4 or 5 weeks, then you should start to worry. Be patient.
