What kind of lizard?

disteldg Feb 21, 2004 11:10 PM

I have a lizard that I am trying to identify. It appears to be some kind of collard spiny tailed lizard.

It is the same length as my Mali uromastyx, close color (maybe a little more grey)and has a tail identical to my Mali.

It has a different head and it has a rounded tube like body (not pancake like the uro)and it has a double black collar on it neck.

It appears to be 100% carnivore and seems more of a desert than tropical. It is also very good at climbing and prefers to be high. It is an adult since I have had it for 5 years but I have never been able to identify it.

Help????

Quite likely either an Oplurus cyclurus or Oplurus cuvieri (= sebae).
Search the web for Pics of both species for comparison.

If nothing fits, it still may be one of the smalle Ctenosaura species like C. alfredtschmitii, C. defensor or C. flavidorsalis (female).

Hope that helps

Kind of sounds like a madagascar dwarf iquana.
