Poison Dart Frogs

i am looking to get my first pdfs. i really like the auratus, but i hear they are shy. that makes me want to get a different species, such as leucs or even tincs. which ones would be a good recomendation. i am in the process of setting up a 10 gal with a stream and maybe a waterfall. i plan to purchas plants and more supplies at the next reptile show and wait until the following one to get the frogs. i am also not looking to spend too much on the frogs right now. any suggestions will be helpful.

tincs and leucs are both excellent choices. I recommend you look at all of the color morphs and choose the one you like best. You will be happy with any leuc or tinc and they are reasonably priced. Just be careful who you purchase from, pay the extra couple of dollars to go through a popular breeder.

even though the auratus are shy, are they still fairly active. at least enough to where i can watch them. they are one of my favorites, and i hear that they rarely ever have problems. so i guess what i am trying to say is that are people who have auratus happy with them?

I'm very happy with my auratus. They are active, and very prolific. They are hawaiians, and i only have a pair now-- i sold off the ones i didn't need. They laid a clutch on a bromeliad leaf a couple of weeks back, and this morning i looked in the tank and my male had a tadpole on his back. very cool. I have like 30 some odd tadpoles, 11 froglets, and about 20 eggs. I started with auratus, but leuc's are great frogs too. Azureus are cheap enough to buy now also-- i remember a time when they were 125 each for a froglet! So keep on researching and decide which kind you like best! Don't go for the gold right now either haha!
