What camera settings did you use for this image? If you let me know I may be able to offer some advice. You may want to consider using a tripod and the cameras self timer to avoid camera shake and the consequent "blur". Using additional lighting may allow you to utilize faster shutter speeds and also eliminate the discouraging "sqirminess" factor on the part of the snake. Additional lighting is fun to play around with and opens up a whole world of nuance in the resulting photos. I would suggest taking a series of the same shot using differant shutter speeds, aperture settings and various lighting schemes, so that you may begin to feel the possibilities and more instinctively manipulate the controls of your camera. I hope this helps and good luck!

You can get something to cover them with...something like a tupperware tub or something of that nature. They usually will chill out if you put them under that for a few seconds then pick it up and take the pic...
Just an idea...
