Crotalus catalinensis

hi, i live on the coast of southern california, and i can be on catalina island for 20 bucks and a half hour boat ride.. my question is, what can i do to observe these wonderfull snakes in the spring when they come out of hybernation? thanks in advance! -matt

If you take that boat trip, the only thing you will find is C. oreganus helleri, with rattles very much in place.

The island where C. catalinensis occurs is Isla Santa Catalina, off the east coast of Baja California del Sur, Mexico, in the Gulf of California. More than half an hours boat ride from your place, I'm afraid...

Only C. viridis helleri occur on Santa Catalina Is. See www.catalinaconservancy.org/ecology/research/ashton.asp for info on C. viridis on the island... NOT to be confused w/ ISLA SANTA CATALINA and C. catalinensis.
