PTS ????? Skinks have been having babies!!!

chrisred Feb 22, 2004 01:50 PM

Ok here is the question........
Can a female have twins at two times... say a few weeks apart ???? The reason is I have several pairs of PTS.
Pair #1 was huge when she was gravid...she had one small
baby about 3 weeks ago.
Pair #2 had a baby last night that is 2 times the size (HUGE baby) as baby #1.
So my ???? is there a chance that Female #1 could still be holding another baby in her....she still looks large....Chris

Well, if the first female only had one small baby and still looks large, it is possible that she may still have a baby in there. But if it's been a couple weeks this would be a problem.

Has she resumed eating? Does she appear alert? IME she should be pretty aggressively defending the juvenile from you right now. If she's not doing these things, or if notice any other abnormal behavior you should take her to the vet for an X-ray or ultrasound to check for an undelivered fetus.

However, if she's acting like a healthy new mom I wouldn't worry too much about it. She may have just been carrying one baby and porked out a bit. Some skinks just have smaller babies than others.
