Picked up 2 new gals yesterday...

lovelyleopards Feb 22, 2004 02:50 PM

Just wanted to post a pic of one of the new corns that I picked up yesterday at the Dixie Reptile ShowShe's a 2001 486 gram Miami Phase - at least I think she'd be considered Miami- opinions? She's fresh out of brumation (hasn't even shed yet) and I hope to breed her after I get a fecal done on hee and she feeds 3-4 times for me. I have an '02 male Blizzard that I'm going to try her with. He's 37" at last measure and around 275 grams - think he's breedable? Anyhow, I also picked up a nice little 03 female Caramel from Bayou Reptiles. I'll have to post a pic of her later.

Hey,
Dixie show? Birmingham?
How was it?
The last time I went it wasn't that great. I did get a nice snow but I also saw some things that bothered me.
Snakes with partial sheds. water turtles in dry tanks. box turtles and tortoises with runny eyes and noses.
There was an excellent booth with leopard geckos and a few booths with some nice snakes but this has been over a year.
Has it improved?
Plan on going next month?
I live in Chattanooga and wouldn't mind checking the show out again. It would also be nice to actually meet someone from the forums.

>>I am not sure if it would be classified as Miami or not but it is a nice looking snake.

Hi Jimmy,

Yes, it's the show in Birmingham. I have been going now regularly for over a year. I can honestly say that the quality of both vendors and animals has improved over the time I have been going. But it all varies from month to month. Sometimes I go and the quality of animals is overwhelming, othertimes it is not so great. I have seen things that bothered me at the show, but I simply do not buy from those vendors. There are reputable people there that take painstaking care of their animals, and it is those people I choose to buy from. And yep, I'll be there next month alright, it's on March 20th I believe. I'd love to meet up with you, so give me a holler if you're going!

I will plan on going. I've been needing an excuse to drive back down.
Last time I went I didn't really talk to anyone. I just looked around, saw a nice snow yearling, bought her and left.
It would be nice to actually talk to someone. Everyone I work with thinks I'm crazy. My family is the same way. They've always understood and supported my love of animals but they just don't quite understand the snakes...lol.
I'll get in touch with you a couple of days before the show.
Jimmy

It'll be great to finally meet someone from the forums. And you're not alone with coworkers/family thinking you're nuts. My friends can't believe I breed geckos and now snakes. My fiancee gets it all the time at work, and the animals don't even live with him yet!If you're looking to go snake shopping when ya get down here, I think you'll be very impressed with the Bayou Reptiles table, they have some stunning corns! But yes, do get in contact with me a few days before the show. Take care!
