why does jersey have such tight herp laws?

it seems this is the only state that has such harsh laws on them. well i just thought i'd ask thanks for any responses

Its like anything else in NJ. Politicians jump on any chance to look like they are doing something to help the public they actually over do it. There was clearly a need to regulate the reptile trade unfortunately the way they went about it was to enact a bunch of unenforcable laws. They laws were put on the books and there was never given any thought to enforcing them. The end result is a huge black market reptile trade in NJ.
