Daily egg laying report....

DC Feb 22, 2004 04:30 PM

...seems like it anyway!

Haggis laid six more today, 28 days on the dot after her last clutch of eight. Five of the six are nice and firm, only one has the flacid flabby feel of a certain dud. I may have lost the earlier eight (plus six from Boink) last week when we had a 'surprise' snow, we had over eight inches of very heavy wet snow fall in a couple of hours and it took out powerlines everywhere. The incubator temps fell to ambient for several hours, as we weren't able to keep the house much above 50 degrees for a day and a half. We'll see. I finally cleaned out all the dusty substrate I had unintentionally created for Brutus and Co. (by using a mixture of soil in the sand for nesting media) and so they are now happy with fresh PLAYSAND and springtime fresh fake rocks. Hoover is due to lay again in about a week, and I found a sort-of-neat "fake rock flower pot" at Wally's today, has a comparatively smallish hole in the top and is about the right size to contain a good nest mix with just enough room to get big Farm Hands in the top so you can feel around for the egg clutch. Hopefully it will make it easier to keep the laying media at the correct moisture level and avoid having the other lunatic lizards churn all through it like roto tillers. I'll post a picture of it eventually LOL.
