Thermostat questions:

newkid Feb 22, 2004 04:49 PM

I have a juvenile leopard gecko and his under tank heater maintains a 85 degree surface temp. I have a Daylight 75 watt bulb over the warm end of tank also. Yesterday this maintained the warm side of the tank to 88 degrees. Today however with same set up and two computers running and 2 people in the room with the door closed I caught the temp going over 90, at one point 95 degrees. I turned off bulb let it cool down and replaced it with a 25 watt bulb and Im holding steady at 83 degrees. So now that Ive talked in a big circle... I will use 75 watt when away from home and 25 or so when we share the room all day..

To get to my MAIN point is there a thermostat I can use that will dim the overhead daylight bulb or turn off and on the daylight bulb while Im away? Just in case the temp would go over 90 when Im not home?

You can get a lamp dimmer which has low, med, high settings. or you can get a thermostat that looks like this one: http://www.bigappleherp.com/Reptile_Supplies/Product/Electronic_BAH1000_Thermostat_924105.html
they have that kind at most big pet stores. When you have the thermostat it turns the heating devices off when it gets to hot and on whenit gets to cold.
