Veiled egg laying question

jamestx Feb 22, 2004 05:36 PM

I have a 11 month old veild and I think the is trying to lay eggs. She is scratching at the bottom of the cage and is getting pretty largs around her mid section. She is still eating crickets but she is not being very agressive about catching them when I put them in the cage.

I have a sand box set up with 18" of moist play sand. I also have her UV and heat lamp setup along with a drip system and a small hibiscus.

My question is IF she is ready to lay eggs, how long do you leave her in the sand box. Also, how do you know for sure she is ready to lay her eggs and how much time does it take for her to lay them?

Leave her in the laying chamber as long as she needs it. There's no problem with leaving in there until she lays. But the consequences of her needing to lay and not being able to are potentially diastrous. So err on the side of caution.

It wasn't clear to me that the laying chamber in her cage or separate. If need be, use a 32 gallon polastic garbage can equipped with lights,, a plant (they like to dig under the roots) and log or large rock (another place they like to dig).
