Pip, The Dwarf Colombian?

Mike Greathouse Feb 22, 2004 08:31 PM

Pip was born on June 5th 2003 as part of an otherwise normal litter of boas. He has eaten steadily since birth, but other then some increase in girth and a slight increase in length, he is essentially much the same size. Even at birth, he was 1/4 the size of his siblings.
I don't know exactly what genetics are at work here, but it will definitely be interesting to see just where this goes.
The attached picture was taken this evening and shows Pip along side his sister. His sister is what I consider to be of normal size for a 9 month old Colombian.

I welcome any and all comments.

Glad to see Pip is doing well! It was definitely a unique experience seeing him in Tampa. Looking forward to Daytona and seeing you (and everyone else) again.
Have a good one Mike!

Interesting new endocrinic ambiguity perhaps?

Mike Greathouse Feb 23, 2004 04:07 AM

Pip measures in at a whopping 35 grams and 12" in length.
His sister is tipping the scales at 375 grams and is 27" long.

To give you an idea of the growth, when Pip was born he measured 7" in length, while his siblings averaged around 15".
Sorry I don't have a birth weight for him.

Thanks Mike for the stats .... very interesting to say the least .I had one from a litter last year that i held back that was "somewhat similar" to Pip.She wasa latterial striped female that at birth was about 1/2 her siblings size she wasnt as small as Pip the dwarf but currently she is 16" and 165 grams ( big difference from Pip) but yet my friend has her sibling and he is in the 26-29" range and 380 grams . My female has a varacious appetite but just doesnt seem to grow like most normals do . She was born March 17th 03 ... lol i call her my "lil leprechaun Boa" due to her birth day lol . Its really astonishing to compare her to the salmontine babies i have as there i "think august" babies from mike & Steph Basically Boas there currently about 27-29" range and a hefty 390 / 401 grams and are just a marvel to watch. Hope pip does well in the future and will produce "lil Boa offspring" for you.
