Should honduran eggs harden ?

toppy Jun 09, 2003 05:13 PM

I have a 5 egg clutch laid last saturday and the eggs still seem soft to me, not brittle like chicken eggs but they give slightly to the touch and two of them feel somewhat rubbery.
is this to be expected? I'm not handling them but I wanted to see if they hardened any and circulate the air in the container ( every 3 days or so).
Thanks chris

Snake eggs should be leathery...they should depress under your touch but not be squishy.

as they go along they do get plumper and feel harder, what do you meen by harden?

I meant should they get hard shelled like a chicken egg. mine are semi hard but still do give under your finger. 3 of the five are like that but two are boarderline squishy so based on what you've said Id expect those two to potentially be the bad ones of the clutch. Ithis is my 1st clutch so I did not know what to expect. Thanks for all your input

you can allways check them with a small mag light, its called candleing, just look for red vines,,how old are they,,even if you don't see vines in the eggs leave them till they look bad,,and don't keep the light on the eggs to long just a real quick look is all

Most of the experienced people here can give a quick visual and tell you if your eggs are bad or not.

If they are uniformly white-ish and not smelly or squishy, they're probably good.

Let us see what you've got.
