Are all thermostats created equally?

Ralph Feb 22, 2004 11:08 PM

Hello,

I am desgining final cages for my snakes and I wanted to use heat panels on all but have a thermostat to regulate them. Is there a big difference between using a Helix DBS thermostat or using one from Alife or Zoomed which are a fraction of the cost? Do the latter have bad reputations for breaking easily or anything negative?

the problem with the less expensive ones is that they're usually either on or off, whereas the better helix models "throttle" the heat by giving the heating aparatus more or less power based on the required temperature. Obviously, the helix type will create a much more even temperature control instead of a range of 3-4 degrees like the on-off models.

That makes sense. Pretty neat feature.
