Tail Wound..more..

Poohbear03031 Feb 22, 2004 11:20 PM

I came home from being in Maine on vacation, and Milo has a wound on his tail. I don't know if it is a bite wound or what. What is the best thing to put on it? Will any anti bacterial ointment be okay? I know i should problay seperate him from the two girls, and am working on getting another tank set up. Could anyone give me some suggestions on how to treat his wound? Thanks.

Yes, I'd seperate that gecko from the others and put it on paper towels until the wound heals up. Try to clean out the wound as much as you can and put some neosporin or antibacterial ointment to prevent infection. Keep an eye on her and if anything comes up (pus, any yellow/greenness, slimyness) take her to a vet ASAP.

This is just a theory of mine, but what I THINK causes these partial autotomies is a fight over food (so owner goes off on vacation and has a big bowl of mealies in the tank, one female feels like taking charge of how the mealies get divided up and a fight breaks out). Would be interesting to see how instead of putting one big bowl of mealies you put several smaller bowls of fewer mealies and see if such an occurance decreases.

That is actually what I do. They have three bowls, one for each of them. They are already on paper towels too. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

I'm assuming Milo is a male. If so he probobly got bitten while trying to mate. If your females have already mated they probobly didn't want anything to do with him and took a snap at him. Your doing everything great, best of luck.

Kind of funny you would say that, because I think one of my females is pregnant. She is getting really big in the stomach, but I can't see any eggs yet. By the way Milo is a male. His tail is healing really well. Thanks for your help.
