Intro went well...

JADE2U Feb 23, 2004 12:03 AM

The introduction of Eden (my early bday present, blue tegu) to my spoiled rotten Duddits (Red Tegu) went really well. He seemed to be nuts about her and she just kind of gave him the cold shoulder. My poor little man LOL

JS,
We have the same combo - a Blue and a Red. Love the contrasts. I'm assuming your blue "Eden" is the female of your pair? Are you certain of the sexes?

We had our Red, "Maggie" first, and then decided to go for number 2 to keep her company. "Bogie came along several months later, but the pig has out-eaten and out-grown his older cage mate. But they do get along marvelously. Almost inseparable.
By the way, we are just speculating on the sexes of ours- assigned Maggie as a female and Bogie the male on pure speculation. Some day we'll know for sure, but right now they're still too young. Enjoy.

This is an older shot, they are both about twice this length now and each have much brighter coloration.

Hi. Nice looking Tegus you have. How big are they now? I bet they are spoiled just like mine. Duddits was probed before I got him and I was told male (I wasn't there for the probing), but the way he is developing it seems to be true. Eden is definitely a female also. They are not living together yet. I just introduced them. I am building a bigger cage for the two of them. Duddit's cage is probably big enough for both, but it's his cage. I figured bigger is better anyway and then there shouldn't be any territory desputes. I noticed when other lizards have been near Duddit's cage he doesn't seem too pleased so I figured a new cage would be the best way to go.

Do you have any updated pics of yours? I agree, I think that the blue and red accent eachother beautifully.

My wife was the instigator of adding tegus to our zoo. She wanted something with legs and more of an attitude to go with our 3 daughters' corn snakes (they have 4) and our rainbow boa. They are definately her little babies, though we all share the enjoyment of them. Bogie does not want to stay in the cage, and will leap out and roam around every chance he gets. Maggie is a home-body, but very gentle and interactive when we coax her out.

I don't have any recent shots of them. They're just coming out of hibernation this last week. I'll get some updates and post them soon.

How big is the new cage you're planning for your 2? This is their current home. We're currently shopping for a new house, so that the reptiles can have their own (or at least MORE) room, but the prices in Southern CA are insane.

Yeah, seems like it. Awesome cage. Did you build it? Your wife made a good decision with the tegus. They are extremely intelligent and have great little personalities. The cage is actually going to be a modified closet. The closet is 6ft long, 6ft high, and 4ft wide. It's going to have like two levels and lots of hides and at least 3 basking spots. Should be pretty nice. I think they will like it. Already started. What about your next enclosure. Post some updated pics when you get them.
