Jeff Clark Feb 23, 2004 01:43 AM

These two females are not quite big enough to breed this year.

These are really beautiful animals Jeff.
Also, below I had expressed my contempt for the trend in producing 'phases' and stupidly named 'morphs'.
I should clarify what I meant, and what others probably mean too.
Oddly patterned animals, albinos and or leucistic snakes in themselves are OK by me. Albinoman's albino Colombian rainbow is exquisite. But the rabid breeding of these things to make a quick buck is what is so nauseating as well as the hype surrounding the culture of these animals. Are they worth more than a normal colored or patterned animal? Of course they are!
But the entire hobby shouldn't skewed towards producing more and more mutations to the exclusion of normal phenotypes.

i agree and disagree with that end part. i agree because there really is no need to accually creat a new morph if u dont like the way the animal looks then dont rase them. but on the other hand, if u can keep these beautiful animals, and get cool patterns then go for it. i dont really c a problem other then all the breeders arguing over who got the morph first and what its called.

IMO, there will always be more breeders producing "normal" phenotypes because most people don't have the finacial backing to start producing anery brazilians when they first enter the hobby...or business.

i also think that the reptile trade would be a little less interesting without all the hype and glam surrounding these "morphs." after all, that hype is partially resposible for making the reptile trade the only pet trade that grew financially last year.

...and while there are some phenotypes that could never occur in the wild(like snow bci's, actually a combined genotype), most have. that is why we have them...and isn't it fun to see something new...no matter how over priced or how much you love the old...or normal.

that's my 2, chris

Are those the offspring of similarly marked parents?
