The BP at my local nature center, which was taken in as a rescue case, is in rough shape. First off, on its nose are white raised speckles that almost look like grains of salt. They are in front of and above the heat pits. I think that it may just be scales retained and dehydrated from a previous bad shed. She was obviously wild-caught, flung into a glass aquarium, and perhaps shed there without any humidity to
speak of.
Also, the flat scales on her belly feel very rough against your hands, like the back edges almost stick off a bit. It's not smooth like the belly of a regular bp. I noticed this yesterday when I had to pick her up for a cage cleaning. She is needless to say VERY skittish and has already tried to bite me. She nailed my boyfriend the first day we saw her, and he still has two puncture-would scars!
I have her in a nice rubbermaid setup now, hot/cool hide, temps right, humidity great. Needless to say, I always wash my hands thoroughly before leaving and coming home to my bps.
