I tried buying heat packs online and they sucked. The brand was uniheat and they were the 40 hour packages. A few days before I needed to send some snakes to Kentucky, I wanted to test the product to assure warmth for my animals. To make a long storie short, I packed up a box with 2 heat packs and a thermometor and put it in the fridgerator. Four hours later, the interior of the box was 42 degrees. When I opened the box, the heat pack was slightly warm to cool.
Angry about waisting my money on these heatpacks, I went to Big5 sporting goods and bought a heat pack brand named Sports Heat. This thing was great and kept the snakes warm for their long trip. The only down side is, it only lasts 20 hours, which should be sufficient if your shipping next day. They run $2. and are well worth the money.
Sorry about the long storie, but I was shocked that the previous heat packs failed. I think your taking the right route by going to the sporting goods store.
Good Luck
Jason
hi jason, thanks. I ended up ordering online (and think they ARE uni-heat!) because i absolutely could not find them here! I called sporting goods, hunting places, ski - places. You'd sort of think that in NH they wouldn't be that hard to find!Expecting them today.
I am shipping overnight from NH to FL. We are having upper 30's - 40 degrees here. maybe I will put three in there..tho' I don't want to bake them!
UGH!

Hopefully i just got a bad batch, or the company sent me old ones. You might want to make sure that they get warm, and do a samply box. Also as you said, dont want to cook them. Good luck with your shipping.
Jason
I went to walmart in the hunter section and found 18 hr. ones. They are called Super Hot Hands by heatmax. I tested them and they get really warm. I put the heat pack on top since heat rises and I didn't want to bake them(they can get to 118F). I shipped in 40F weather and my leo was fine. I wasn't sure at first but it worked. As long as you overnight them in 40 or above.
