Here's a pic of a gravid Rock/Burmese Hybrid.

BrianSmith Feb 23, 2004 10:49 AM

This is "Caramel". She is a 2 1/2 year old, 11 foot female hybrid rock/burmese (50/50). She has been breeding off and on for the last 5 or 6 weeks and began showing a very noticeable ovulation about a week and a half ago. It has grown to tremendous proportions, considering her young age and relatively small size, so I think I am expecting a good first clutch. Both she and her mate (won't say what he is yet) are DOG TAME so I expect that the babies will have a great head start on fast becoming docile little guys. I will be holding back a minimum of 12 females and 3 males from her offspring as they will have very,........ "special",..... double het qualities.

She is a little dark right now in her gravid state, but I welcome any comments on what you think of her. Sorry she isn't posed very well. I was focused mainly on catching the ovulation at the right angle rather than her "best side", lol.

Very nice looking hybrid there. Todd

She's normally MUCH prettier but like most pigment oriented snakes she is in her "I'm gravid", yucky mode and is much darker and more dreary than usual. I theorize that this physical change during pregnancy is to better blend in and "camoflauge" with surrounding earth tones in the wlld. The albinos show no discernible darkening.

So how are your burms? Hope they are well. And did you get your rabbits started yet?

Well, my burms are doing pretty good. Both my females are slightly over 8'. My male is almost 7'. I have a quick question. My on female went off feed for 3 weeks now. I read that this is how you determine there ready to breed. Could this be her telling me that she is ready. I know my male is but I figured my females were still about 6 months away from being large enough.
As far as the rabbits I got a little colony going consisting of 2 males and 6 females. Four of the females are of breeding size(two are actually do today) but two are still real young. I built some simple huches for now but once my colony grows I will definitely get with you to work on some better plans. Anyway, You have beautiful snakes and I look forward to do some business with you in the near future. Todd

Hi Todd,

It isn't a for sure sign, but it "could" mean that they are ready to be bred. So when mine do it, if they are big enough, I will allow them to breed. You'll know if the female is ready if the male immediatly attemts to breed her. When a female is ready she smells ready to the male. If the male goes off into the corner to sleep,.. you'll know she isn't ready.

That's great on the rabbits. They are ready to breed before you know it. I am going to build a big rabbit breeding facility here on my property before the summer heat arrives. I lose SO many rabbits due to heat (it gets 110-114 here on average in the summer) that it isn't even funny. Besides,. as I am going to sell my home and the rat breeding facility/business as a package deal I figured the buyer would certainly be interested in a rabbit facility too. After all, it will be a snake breeder or pet store owner that buys my place, you know.

Thanks for the compliment on the snakes. And I too look forward to meeting you and doing business in the future.
