awake from hibernation?

antares Feb 23, 2004 11:02 AM

This morning my B&W woke up and starting walking around a bit, it looked like he went to see if there was any food then went back to sit under the heat lamp. He did this once before then went back to sleep. Is this normal? I don't know if i should put food in or not. He also went into hibernation partially shed and the dead skin still hasn't come off, I'd give him a bath but I don't want to wake him up too much if he's just going back to bed. Also because he hasn't eaten in months, his legs are getting pretty thin and I'm worried about MBD but I don't know what to do since he won't eat. Any advice on these things would be great.

I feel your pain because mine went through the same thing. You received him in a hibernated state I assume? If so, just let him be. If you happen to see him walking around, you can offer food, but it will probably be rejected the first few times. If he is a hatchling, I think it is normal for them to be a little skinny when they exit hibernation because they only had a few months to build up their fat stores. I know it is easy to say and hard to do, but don't worry. Mine went into hibernation in the middle of the shed also, and in the past 2 weeks he has shed fine and is eating well. Your little guy will wake up when he is ready. Hope this helps.

I've had him since August, he was a hatchling then when I got him, I don't know if he still counts as one or not. Thanks very much though, I'll see if he takes the food and hope for the best.

Yep try putting some food in there. Mine started eating right away after hibernation. I've heard that they'll sometimes appear from hibernation just to get a drink....
