Early Signs of mating! Help

ribbitt Feb 23, 2004 11:11 AM

So, I wake up this morning and behold I see my male ADF clutching the female tightly and she is carrying him everywhere. So, how long does this mating process go on? Any information would be fabulous on their mating and what happens next! I am so exited!

I know you posted awhile ago, hopefully i am not too late
They will probably mate in the next few days or weeks. Mine embraced for about 2 weeks before actual mating. You have to be vigilant if you want to keep the eggs, because they will eat them. They may have already mated but eaten the eggs before you noticed!
If you want to keep some, I'd recommend only 10-20 eggs if this is your first time raising them. it is a very tedious process involving using a turkey baster to spot-clean their tank, since a siphon would be deadly to them. They are smaller than the letters on your keyboard when they hatch!
I recently had a breeding and still have about 100 tads which have not morphed yet. About twenty of them are frogs. It's alot of work, but so rewarding when yous ee those tiny froglets that you helped create! See my pic...
