Eggs died again!

jesseter Feb 23, 2004 11:44 AM

Hello all. Well I found my girl's 2nd cluth deflated and molded this morning. It is the same as the first. Last year I had problems with her clutch's doing the same thing! The last clutch she laid last year hatched though!! So I know she and my male are fertile. She lays them in her humid hide and then proceed's to make pancake's of them by just lying on top of them!! She won't use the egg laying hide I put in her cage. Which is almost identical to her humid hide. I have a homemade incubator. I have it set at 86 degrees, and it only ever goes 1 degree over or under. Does anyone have any suggestions that my help me out with this problem?! Any and all help is EXTREMELY Appreciated!! Have a great day everybody!!

Sometimes they do lay infertile eggs. If you think they were good until she squished them, you're going to have to check the hide a couple times a day from now on. If you've had two clutches of infertiles in a row from the same female, maybe you should put the male back in with her.

What sex babies did you want? 86 is a little high, unless you want a mixture of males and females. If you want all females, you might want to lower it a bit, or at least during the first 2-3 weeks of incubation, then back to 86 for the duration to speed them along a little.

I have found that good eggs come out hard like bird eggs. Soft eggs never seem to make it. To increase the odds of getting solid fertile eggs I increase the amount of calcium. Pinkies work awesome, and calcium powder is a must.

I dont know if geckoes retain sperm, they may have to mate before each gestation.

So far I've gad 10 eggs laid. 6 infertile, 4 fertile.

6 infertiles were soft and dented almost immediately, molded soon after.

4 fertiles have solid texture and are good looking eggs. Bright pink with vascular tissue when candled.
