Blood in stool

Amk2109 Feb 23, 2004 12:50 PM

I already have made a doctor appt for tomorrow but I wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience. Zoey, who is actually a male, had an accident on our kitchen floor yesterday. I cleaned it up and it appeared that she was continuing to go and so I got a paper tower and just held that underneath her and a very small amount (size of a pea) of bright red blood was there. Is it possible that she may have tore something or could this be something really serious? Like I said she is going to vet tomorrow but I was hoping that someone could calm my nerves and tell me that this has happened to one of their beardies and it was no big deal : ) The stool looked perfectly normal but a little large and that is why I am wondering if you she was having trouble passing and it may have torn.

If he has bred lately this sometimes happens afterwards. Have him checked anyway and take in a fresh fecal to have tested for parasites.

times, so I am assuming that its becasue you thought he was a she prior and just use to saying that.

Breeding will sometimes cause this, also parasites, worms and gram negative bacteria infections low in the intestines.

Also, passing large bowel movements or one that have chitin (worm shelling) in them can also break some of the many small blood vessels in the intestine, that is usually not a problem.

But as the other poster said, a fecal would be the thing to have checked.

Sorry to be so confusing. Zoey is a male but we figured that out after we named him so we just kept the name but I still call him a her all the time. Thanks for the help from both of you!
