Hello everyone. Thanks for so much support - it was hard losing Maya, but her death may help save Houdini ... we'll see. The vet is currently working on her necropsy. However, since she was mistakenly frozen (hubby didn't know and I didn't find out until the next morning) the tests that can be run on her are very limited. We're keeping our fingers crossed that something will show up in her lab work.
Houdini went to the vet again last friday. Had a chest xray done and the results came back with absolutely no fluid in his lungs. He's still showing signs of respiratory problems though. He still raises his head sometimes like he's having a hard time breathing. But he's never had any mucus coming from his mouth or nose like Maya had. He is still refusing food and losing weight, so we are keeping him on a high calorie diet with lots of fluids while he's on meds (Cephalexin and Baytril orally). He really hates being force fed, and I hate adding to his stresses.
The vet doesn't know what to say about Houdini's illness at this point. It was rather clear before with his current symptoms that he had a respiratory problem of some kind. Now with the xray showing that his lungs are clear, we're a little mystified. With a little luck, Maya will lead us to the correct treatment to save Houdini.
I'll keep you all posted...
Veronica
