Sure you can get an average jungle for less money, but you can get one from spectacular bloodlines for not that much more. An average jungle hatchling at a show--which will most likely turn out ugly--would probably go for about $75-$100. You could probably get a really nice one for $150-$200 from one of the many well-respected breeders that we always speak of on this forum. Believe me, in the long run, you'll be much happier with a snake that is of higher quality.

If average is all you want you can pick one up for anywhere from 75-100 dollars, but in all honesty you never know if what your getting is pure or even going to look that good for that matter. You can get a really good one for 200 and up to 300-350 dollars, and the price in the long run will definetly be worth it. But if looks or breeding is not your thing, you can pick up a mediocre one for under 100 bucks. I bought one for 45 dollars one time, ended up being a very poor jungle/diamond cross instead of a pure jungle and grew to 7.5 feet in 3.5 years and compared to pure jungles or pure diamonds just looked very dull. Pay the price now, and you will probably enjoy your purchase much more later.

This animal is going to live 20 years in your care. Why get an ugly one to save $50?? Doesn't make sense.

Jungles are the ONE animal that is graded, and rightly so. You get what you pay for.

The word average is frowned upon in this forum. You also better get a python that can be traced to a specific locality and that is "pure", unless of course it's a Diamond, Carpet cross. That is acceptable. If you get an "average" python, you won't be welcomed here with open arms. Sad but true.

Tormato Jun 09, 2003 08:34 PM

I agree. I've had 'average' Ball pythons (dark, sorta ugly) and loved them just the same. I guess some people regard repiles only as living art, nothing more. I have respect for their personalities along with the enjoyment of watching them thrive, ugly or not. Get what you want. I for one, am not about to jump the bandwagon on this whole morph crap. We're talking about Pythons here. Pytons. Simple snakes. Theyre just fun.

Well said. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Jeff Favelle Jun 09, 2003 10:03 PM

Who was talking about morphs? Don't make stuff up. We're talking about nice-looking animals. There is a BIG difference.

And snakes don't sell at the shows with little signs around their necks saying "I have a great personality".

jkuroski Jun 09, 2003 08:58 PM

Could we see some pics of your wonderful pets Aunteye? I bet you have some really nice carpets.

Gee , I'm sorry. Did my post offend you in some way? I've never posted a pic of any of my snakes on any of the forums. I don't need to. Furthermore, I would never succumb to a "control" tactic such as your feeble attempt to make me do something to satisfy your ego. Did you reply to my post because you think it's about you? Didn't Carly Simon dedicate a song to you? Perhaps you impress many people here. I'm not one of those people. So please, step down off of your high horse when addressing me and get a grip. I simply call it like I see it. If it doesn't conform to your way of thinking, that doesn't mean it's wrong.

Jeff Favelle Jun 09, 2003 10:05 PM

Is this the Ball Python forum?

Holy shee-at!

aunteye Jun 09, 2003 10:13 PM

LOL! You crack me up.

Jeff Favelle Jun 09, 2003 11:34 PM

Ok, if we still have our sense of humour, then we are still safe. Right?

Cheers.

Tormato Jun 09, 2003 11:49 PM

Sorry Jeff. I didn't mean to say morph. But would it be fair to say you were kinda "nitpicking"? I mean, I get this feeling from the popular Python world that morphs and "screamers" kinda get the same high-value respect. I'm quite self-effacing; I don't have a problem with too many things. But wanting a morph/or screamer bloodline is the same intention to me. The need to have a better, more expensive, more attractive snake turns some people on. Like I said earlier- pythons are very simple. You took my personality thing the wrong way-totally. An aggressive python is fun for me, and especially when the aggressive behavior leaves. I have a yearling Carpet that wanted nothing to do with me. I finally managed to completely tame her down. I get quite a buzz from that. I'm just getting tired of people saying "check out this high yellow" or "this is the best bloodline yet folks". Sometimes you wish people would just take them for what they are. They are stupid snakes. Gone are the days of just owning a standard snake and not needing anything more to satisfy our pleasures. And you gave me the perfect opportunity to pipe in-regarding a man who wanted a standard snake, and it was not good enough for you. Is nothing sacred?

I will now post a photograph of my ugly Coastal, which I am still fond of.

We can all like different things. ie. different things can blow up different people's skirts. I personally like extreme specimens of certain snakes. I like snakes that hold their colors and have visually-appealing patterns.

You like snakes just for being snakes and that's awesome. But it shouldn't bother you that everyone is not like that. It certainly doesn't bother me that not everyone thinks like you.

Righty?

aunteye Jun 10, 2003 05:49 AM

You're absolutely right.

aunteye Jun 10, 2003 05:46 AM

right.

Sounds like the makings of a song. Write some more lyrics and I'll see if I can incorporate some guitar into it.

jkuroski Jun 10, 2003 02:02 AM

I wasn't being rude. I want to see your collection. And since you seem to be all into the snakes themselves I called them pets like you probably would. Looks like you’re jumping the gun. If you don't want to that's fine...I was just curious.

Perhaps you want these people to believe that you had no ulterior motive hidden in your post, but I'm smarter than you think...remember that. You could care less what's in my collection or what I think for that matter and you've made that clear with previous posts. So stop trying to be cute and stick to the business at hand. As I said, I never post pics of my snakes on the forums. Trust me, if I did post them, you'd shut up. I'm sorry if I compromised the integrity of your credibility by rowing against your waves and by threatening your position as the bigshot on this forum. If it means that much to you, I'll leave your little posts alone from now on. Toodles.

I didnt sense any alterior motives at all. I just think that your being childish. Call it envy, jealousy whatever works for you, it sounds as if you have a real complex with him and his opinions as if yours where somehow more important. LOL How old are you 12? You dont post pictures of your snakes? Are you working on an extra special project or something? Otherwise I see no reason why you wouldnt share your snakes with us its not like their radiance will blind us all or something. I assume that your one of the types of people that can dish it out but cant take it without flying into a defensive frenzy. Thats ok, you will grow out of your ways after you graduate.

That's funny, I went back and reviewed the thread and couldn't find this "frenzy" you speak of. I don't think my opinions are more important than anyone elses. That seems to be the attitude you guys portray here. God forbid someone disagrees with you. As for the "graduate" comment...I dare not try to match wits with such a witty and intellegent fella' like yourself. How do you come up with those killer lines???

KeoniKoch Jun 11, 2003 12:50 AM

I actually come up with those killer lines after being a troll on the internet for such a long time. LOl

Mayo Jun 10, 2003 11:31 AM

That is horrible to say! If you enjoy your animal and it is beautiful to you then that is what matters. That comment looks to come from someone who is only into herps for profit. WHatever you buy post some pics on here, I would love to see it. I really like my IJs but their beauty is only in the eye of the beholder, i guess those are different eyes than aunts!

My post was not a reflection of my views, but an observation of views expressed by a number of people on this forum. I've never used snakes as a means of profit. I don't need to. I make my money as a general contractor.
