There, actually, is a great book called 2x4 furniture. Very basic skills are all that are needed for the projects they have (e.g. Can you move your arm back & forth repeatedly? Good. You can operate a hand saw, which means you can cut the wood.) and, while you might not care about making a lawn chair or flower racks, it teaches you the basics of amateur carpentry, measuring, joining, and planning. From there, just keep in mind those basics: You're building a box. That's all a terrarium is. A box. Leave one side open, so you can put a door there. Leave the top open so you can screen over it and add lighting. But, it's still just a box. Maybe 2 boxes, if you build a nice enclosure for the top to hide the light fixture.
Once you've built your box, then you get to worry about things like sealing the wood so your hogg's urates don't soak into it. You also get to worry about decorating, but, don't lose sight of the fact that a terrarium is (say it all together boys & girls) just a box.
If you really want a nice, pretty, well-made box, then there are other considerations, such as what wood and stain you want to use, but, that's part of the initial planning of your box...
