Lame arm...cont.

BigFil Feb 23, 2004 05:38 PM

OK it's been a little over two days now and Smeagol's lower arm is not working after a shot of Droncit. He' s still walking around on his limp wrist with no improvement and we are off to the vet in about a half hour. It's upsetting to see my big healthy strong BD hobbling around on his wrist. His arm is swollen but does not seem sensitive to the touch. Would a broken bone get a reactionary jerk or bite if it was causing him pain? Arggggggghhh.

In my experience, I would have to say that if it was hurting him he would definately let you know. I hope the vet has answers for you. It can be really frustrating when the vet doesn't have an answer. I know from recent experience. Good luck and please let us know what the vet says.

It's super frustrating because he was totally fine until the injection. I'm taking him to the vet to get better not worse. Anyways, I will update as soon as we get back.

So the vet looked at him for a minute and said when the injection was given Smeagol moved around while the needle was in and it could have severed some muscle tissue or a nerve. He said it could take up to a month to heel! ARGGHH. I also asked if he could injure his wrist/arm further by walking his wrist and the vet said to just make sure he isn't rubbing it raw. Only good news is that he gobbled up a bowl full of crickets that I put in front of him (so he didn't have to move).

Thanks for keeping us posted. I hope he gets better.

I hope you see some improvement soon. I'd be so gosh darn mad at that vet! But then again these things probabably happen to the best of vets too. Hard to say. I'll pray for your little guy to get better quickly.

Sure if it was broken you'd get a bite or a jerk from the dragon if it was in pain. Not sure about you, but I would not feel comfortable giving injections to my dragons. Nor if I was a vet would I hand someone a needle to take home, and expect them to know how to give an intramuscular shots, or for that matter be good enough to hit the muscle, and do it properly with no prior experience.... Are you experienced in giving ijections into muscles? It's possible it missed the muscle and is effecting a tendon or nerve. I'm sorry your dragon is hurt. I would definitely take it in if after two days he still is not able to use it's arm properly.

the vet did on saturday. Like yourself I would not even feel comfortable with giving my BD's a shot. It's been two days now so we are going back.

OOhh sorry I thought he gave you the medicine to take home to give the follow up shot.Just reread your last post. Sorry about that.
