Just curious about my DBT

choadermcgavin Feb 23, 2004 05:43 PM

I have a diamond back terrapin that I found last october near a river off shooting the chesapeke bay. When I found it still contained its yolk sac, hinting to me that it was only a week or so old. Im 95% sure its a female..its growing like crazy and has about a 4-5 inch shell. The other day something strange happened and I havent found a website to tell me what it is. Some Long floss looking type of string was coming out from just underneath the tail. a little after the tail starts. This string was like 6 inches loong just coming out and it was shaped in an oval form..She seems great as always eating and sunning herself at least once every 24 hrs..So im just wondering and puzzled of what that white stuff was.

Sounds like your DBT has parasites. I would take him to the vet and get him treated.

I will get it checked out if it keeps happening but she seems great. She swimming crazily around like usual and still wants to never stop eating. What I think is the day before I fed it her annual sunday bloodworms..and she engulfed a whole chunk in a matter of seconds and that is what stuff is like its clear like see through and it looks like processed sausage links each link is about the size of a bloodworm..so it looks like the bloodworm casings without all the nutrients in it..its rather strange..ive got all my roomates to look at it and no one thinks its a parasite at all but if it gets worse or she starts acting up then I will take her to get checked out..thanks

tapeworm/roundworm takes a long time to debilitatate a otherwise healthy turtle but evetually it can kill them.
There is a standard treatment. Get a REPTILE vet, it won't cost you more than 65 dollars.
