First off your skink is not lonely, it is not capable of feeling human emotions. Skinks do very well alone and do not need companionship. Males are larger than females and have a more elongated head. They also have a yellow orange line that runs along their lower jaw and down their side.

My female has that line, so that isn't a great way to tell. Schneiders can be hard to sex without a comparative skink to size up against. A male will be thinner, with a longer head and slightly pointed snout, whereas the female will have a larger bulk with the head being less pointed but a little wider. If you could post a picture from above your skink, I should be able to give a rough estimate.
Also, while your skink may not be lonely per se, another skink can do wonders. I've kept 3 schneiders for a while now, 2 in a 1.1 pair, and one male on his own. The male did show certain signs to suggest a lack of enrichment. However, that male is now in with a female at my college for a breeding project, and he seems a lot more alert in himself.
Be careful though, as male skinks will NOT get along at all with one another, and one will certainly dominate, and most likely kill the other male.
