Yet another budgetts frog question!

KristenM Feb 23, 2004 07:12 PM

LOL I was comming on here to post a question about budgetts and now I see how much talk has been going on about them, seems like a popular topic. Anyways I have two budgetts, one adult and one juvi. I am 100% sure the adult is male because he calls every night. I am wondering if anyone knows fist hand a good method of sexing these frogs besides calling. I have read that size is one way of determining sex but I dont like relying on this method. Also does anyone have first hand experence with cycling and breeding these frogs? Tadpole care? Any information from anyones who has ever kept these frogs (any species)would be appriciated.

Thanks
Kristen

Well I'm from Canada so I have no idea where to get them from in the states and I personally feel they are one of the easily kept. However brumation is a factor. I personlly find my budgetts easier to take care of than my pac man, most of my other frogs, the majority of my snakes and lizads, so you got me why they are difficult to keep!

As far as I've seen, there is no good complete care sheet. Their care isn't difficult, the thing is the brumation and that many that I've seen are imported. Anywhere form $20-40 seems to be the price range for them. I love them, they do seem to be more work that the horned frogs and pyxies though.

Kristen I was wondering if you are having such good luck with these frogs could you tell me how you have them setup and what kind of care you are giving them. I recently had one pass away and I would like to get another one and has many of the posts have commented there is very little info on them so if you are successful your advise would be great.
Thanks
Christina
