maggots as food source?

markanthony Jun 09, 2003 07:07 PM

I saw a interesting, recent post below about maggots being fed to dart frogs.
I was wondering what procedures are used in acquiring maggots and their advisability in use as a food source.,
I am new and I haven't heard of this before.
Thanks in advance,
Markanthony

The maggots are nice and fattening for young frogs that don't like to eat much. But it is quite a pain to wash them out of the FF medium. Just dust as usual.

I'm referring to a recent post answering shopaholic's question on inadvertently feeding maggots along with her flies. Someone suggested her frogs might be hung over because the maggots have ethanol in them from the yeast. (Don't know if this would be true, since anything not still in the gut would be metabolized to glucose, so they aren't exactly like little bottles of rum.)
