Different size beardies in 1 tank...

BeArDyCrAzY Jun 09, 2003 07:10 PM

The Metro Toronto Reptile Expo is commin up soon, and i am planning on getting 1 or more bearded dargons. Currently i own 1 sub-adult female that is about 12 1/2" long. I just wanted to know what is the smallest size beardy that can be put in with my female w/ out any problems? Could a beardy half the size of mine (6" be able to live with my female w/ out any problems?

I hear stories all the time where people taking picture with smaller beardies and adult beardies and the big beardie killing them in one swift bite. DOn't make the mistake of housing them together. They need seperate cages ...

Even if your older beardie doesn't kill and eat the little one, it will stress out the little guy. The little one will be afraid to eat, bask, etc. when he's around the bigger dragon.

Keep them seperate until they are of similar size.

NNOOO... Your new beardie needs to be kept seperately from the one you have for a while. If you want to keep them together later, buy another tank and house them together when the smaller one has reached adult size. They might be alright together, but then again, maybe the little one gets eaten. Why bother finding out.

I too plan to go to the Toronto Expo Maybe I will see yu there, not that I would know which person there would be you LOL.

Anyway, it isn't a good ideal to house two different sized dragons in one tank. They should be pretty much the same size at best (and female), maybe within an inch of each other. Another thing to remember that it is always best to put any new beardie separated for a few months to ensure they don't have any parasites or diseases that could be spread to your other beardie.
