Not eating

jazzycat Feb 23, 2004 09:34 PM

Saturday I got a baby beardie that is missing most of his tail and has a badly bitten foot. Since I've been treating his foot it is starting to look better though I think he will probably still loose his toes. My problem is, he won't eat. I've been offering him salads and crickets but he doesn't seem interested. Is there anything else I could offer him that might help? He is about 4 1/2" from his nose to the base of his tail. Could the stress from his move/foot injury be making him not eat? I'm not sure how old he is, but going by his size, how much/often should I feed him?

It is not uncommon for some BD's to not eat for a week or so after a move to a new home. He most likely just needs a little time to himself to adjust to the new diggs.

I agree with BigFil, give it a little time. If your baby starts to drop weight, looks dehydrated, or doesn't start eating soon though try this. Mix some powdered pellet with some pedialite and shake in some supplement (can add some babyfood also to make it taste a little better) make it kind of runny but with some consistency. Suck it up in a syrenge (no needle) and put a drop on your babys nose, if it doesn't start lapping it up squeeze some between it's lips. That should work (almost always)

dont let it go more than a week. If you need to force feed, you can try rep-cal juvie pellets soaked in pedialite until it gets mushy then use a syringe to squirt it in his mouth. Try offering the soaked pellets first to see if he will eat them.
