So I was out of town this weekend and my dumb friend forgot to make my ig his daily salad two days in a row. How bad is this for my ig?

He should be fine as long as he starts eating

No offence to you Paradisio but didn't you just get your ig not long ago? I don't mean to be really.. rude or anything but, you, as a relative newbie to iguanas, shouldn't be giving out advice or reassurences on their care no matter how right you might be. I realize you're enthusiastic about the subject.. but I also realize there are a lot of people out there who would listen to some possible wrong advice you may give that you don't know is wrong and as such risk their animal's health.

While you are right on this subject... I would just ask you to try and stop giving advice for a while until you have more hands on experience. I am sorry if I come off sounding high handed or anything but I've seen too many people with a new animal think they know everything about that animal's care and give out wrong information that people listen to and risk another pet's health doing so.

If I'm wrong and you didn't just get your iguana and you've been dealing with iguana's for a long period of time.. then I apologize and you can ignore this.

hmm.. something that may help.. i havent had my gecko for too long, but when i post replies to people, seeking advice, i always try to write "from what i read on this forum", or "from what i've read on caresheets" or simply "from my own experience."
that way people know that it may not be the same for all geckos or igs or whatever...

I've always kind of found experienced keepers who insist they know all and no one else knows anything to be far worse than an enthusiastic newbie.

TerriBerri69 Feb 24, 2004 10:13 PM

I actually fear those "enthusiastic newbies" & some of their advice.

I'm thinking back to one person who was trying to tell someone new to igs how to sex their young (12"-14" long) ig.

The webmaster actually ended up pulling all of his threads.

I read all & only listen to a few but that's MY thing.

I'm glad someone said it. A lot of bad advice can be given by a few who are new & think they do know everything, even though he was right that time.

Like I said, my opinion....

Happy herping.

When did I saw I know everything?

I was just passing on advice I had read from posts and books and a vet.

I wasn't explaining astrophysics

I never said you said you knew everything.. but you answering other "newbies" questions isn't right no matter that you're just passing on what you've read or heard. What you've read and heard is very subjective... It all depends on what someone else knows.. and that someone else may be very wrong. Take me for instance. I'm new to Monitor Lizards. I got my Savannah Monitor almost a year ago now... but I still won't give out much advice on them save on their diet and how much they should be fed. Those are the only questions I'll answer about them. Why? Because I still don't know enough about their care to feel comfortable giving out second-hand information. Experience is the best teacher... not books or caresheets or anything... and those that don't have enough experience as yet should wait to answer questions about any species. I'm sorry if this hurt your feelings or made you upset but this is just how I feel. I've seen newbies to various species give out some of the worst advice.. thinking they were told the right things. Leopard geckos on sand..(Not a good thing) Monitors on newspaper (lack of stimulation for a very intelligent animal). I can site lists of examples but it all comes down to the fact that inexperienced keepers really shouldn't be giving out advice on a species they've only been keeping for a very short time. There are some exceptions to this (like a person thats been into reptiles for more than a few years and has worked with many species but maybe not that specific species)such as me. I've worked with alot of different species.. but currently own only a few.

All I'm saying is... Get some experience under your belt with iguana's before you go regurgitating information to other newbie keepers. Especially iguana keepers. There is so much bad information out there on them that wading through the correct stuff is the work of years.
