Soap for Bath Time??

SaveFerris Feb 24, 2004 06:49 AM

Do you use soap when giving your beardie a bath? My guy gets pretty dirty, it would help to use soap. Is it ok?

The only thing i've ever heard about anyone adding to a bath would be 20:1 diluted Nolvasan

I have used mild baby shampoo on dragons in the past. I generally only use it if someone has made a mess of themselves by covering themselves in their poop, etc.

I just use a soft toothbrush and a bit of baby shampoo.

Oh, I lied......... I have used some baby shampoo on females after they have just laid. Sometimes they are so filthy all the dirt doesn't want to come off easily.

We use soap all the time. Try to use a mild one though, we use baby shampoo (no tears) and put it on a tooth brush or nail brush the babies love a good scrub down.

I don't use soap often.. I've used a mild antibacterial soap very few times over the years that I kept dragons. I'm personally not sure if the scents, or if any ingredients could be dangerous and effect them differently then it does us. I stay away from using any soap regularly if not needed. I use one of those battery operated Crest Spin Brushes to scrub them and it gets them nice and clean while giving them a nice massage, and no soap is needed. Just a nice warm bath and the spin brush to scrub the tough spots gets them nice and clean. Most my dragons just love the feeling of the spin brush, and actually push themselves against it when I use it to clean them. It works great in getting between their scales, and cleaning their feet where most of the dirt gets stuck. Give it a try, and see if yours likes it or not. Some of mine were not sure about it at first, but now all of them are use to it, and have their own brushes LOL. Some just love it when I massage their tummy and beards.

That's hillarious Mattman..LOL. It must be like walking through a car wash with all those giant brissles spinning towards them. Thanks for sharing.

Does your toothbrush taste funny afterwards?

I dont think Id do that.

I wish they made BIGGER brush heads for the tooth brushes!! Do you know what it's like scrubbing Big Foster with a tiny tooth brush with his big meat head, and Anna with that pancake body. No, the babies just soak for me, but once they are settled in (not skittish) and are grown up they all get the spin brushes hehe, and don't mind at all. Some times I think I have the most laid back group of dragons here except during breeding season.
