I have a problem with my SS. On Sunday he was on my bed. He fell off and I didn’t find him for several hours. He was in another room. When I found him he didn’t appear injured in anyway. He was out of the water until Thursday when I went to put him out side in his cage. He didn’t want to move and all round his shell and the under side his arms and around his head were all bright red. (On the under part of his shell it looked like you could see hundreds of little blood vessels). He would not open his eyes. (Sorry my computer broke or I would post pics). I put him out in his pool but after watching him he moved very little and I was afraid he would drown. I put him in a very short Rubbermaid container with water and a worm. On Friday he seemed a little better he opened his eyes and kept his head just on the level of the water. By Sunday he seemed even better some of the redness under his shell was gone. Yesterday under his shell was still red but when I put him in his pool he would stick his head up for air but after about two hours he got on his rocks out of the water. The weather was nice (about 70). I just don’t know what this is about. I don’t know if he could have been hurt when he fell off the bed or if he just needed water. Has this ever happened to someone’s SS or does anyone know what this could be from?

Softshells as you should know, have bery soft shells. They easily get scratched up and brusied. Warm up the water to about 80 and it should be fine.

WHY WAS THE TURTLE ON YOUR BED IN THE FIRST PLACE? TURTLES REALLY DON'T LIKED TO BE "PLAYED WITH" ESPECIALLY SOFTSHELLS, THEY ARE TOO DELICATE. FIRST OF ALL, STOP HANDLING THE TURTLE, WARM UP THE WATER TEMPERATURE, AND LEAVE HIM BE, TRY NOT TO HANDLE HIM, OR MOVE HIM FROM CAGE TO CAGE.

Ok, I agree with you on that. But amazingly, there are baby Softshells that do like to be played with.

P.S.- You don't need the CAPS LOCKS

Really, did you ask the turtle if he liked playing?

No but if I did I don't think it would answer. I have had a few baby Softshells that didn't mind being held.

Being held and "playing" is a big difference. . .
