One of the first babies to shed....

Yasser Jun 09, 2003 08:03 PM

This is one of15 baby Southern Scrubs we hatched this year. About half shed overnight including this one. I can never get enough of their color! I always thought seeing white was good but seeing red is even better!
Hope ya like.

Those are some freakin awesome scrubs! I'm not an expert, so.....how big do they get? I know some of the scrubs get HUGE, and that was the main reason I never seriously looked at getting any. Aren't the southers smaller, or is that the Moluccans? I get confused easily, lol.

I know the question was addressed to Yasser but I'll save him the bother if that's ok.

While the Australian ones (Kinghorni) can become monsters the New Guinea ones generally get to around 12-15 feet. It sounds big but they are so elongated it doesn't make for a huge snake. A nine foot Coastal carpet is a bigger snake than a 12 foot scrub.

The only real scale issue with scrubs relates to personality.
They are the in a league of their own in terms of awareness, impressiveness and downright lovability (IMHO).

Thanks for the response. Sorry to sound ignorant, but which ones are from New Guinea? Does that mean like the Aru ones & other locales? So basically they are like a giant Amazon tree boa, but with the personality of a retic?

All the information you need to know about Scrubs is at www.SpitfireReptiles.com. There are actually 2 different locales from New Guinea (and MANY more from the surrounding islands). The Southern form is what Yasser hatched recently and is pictured in his post. I've got a Southern from his very first clutch and has been my most favorite snake for the past 2 years. Nothing compares to a Scrub. Nothing. Later,
Josh
